Ingredients

Scale
  • 🥩 Steak: 1 lb flank steak, thinly sliced
  • 🧅 Onion: 1 medium onion, sliced
  • 🌶️ Bell Peppers: 2 bell peppers (red and green), sliced
  • 🧄 Garlic: 3 cloves, minced
  • 🫒 Oil: 2 tbsp vegetable or sesame oil
  • 🍯 Soy Sauce Mixture:
    • 3 tbsp soy sauce
    • 2 tbsp oyster sauce
    • 1 tbsp hoisin sauce
    • 1 tsp sugar (optional)
    • 1 tbsp rice vinegar
    • 1 tsp cornstarch dissolved in 2 tbsp water
  • 🌶️ Seasoning: 1 tsp black pepper, 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Sauce:
    • In a small bowl, mix soy sauce, oyster sauce, hoisin sauce, sugar, rice vinegar, and cornstarch slurry. Set aside.
  2. Marinate the Steak:
    • Season sliced steak with black pepper and a pinch of salt. Let it sit for 10 minutes.
  3. Cook the Steak:
    • Heat 1 tbsp oil in a wok or large skillet over high heat. Add steak and sear until browned (about 2-3 minutes). Remove and set aside.
  4. Sauté Vegetables:
    • In the same skillet, add 1 tbsp oil. Toss in garlic, onions, and bell peppers. Stir-fry for 2-3 minutes until tender-crisp.
  5. Combine & Simmer:
    • Return steak to the skillet. Pour in the sauce and stir to coat everything evenly. Let it simmer for 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly.
  6. Serve:
    • Serve hot over steamed rice or noodles. Garnish with sesame seeds or chopped scallions if desired.

Notes

  • Tenderizing the Steak: For extra tenderness, marinate steak with 1 tsp baking soda for 15 minutes, then rinse and pat dry before cooking.
  • Veggie Variations: Add snow peas, carrots, or mushrooms for added crunch and color.
  • Make It Spicy: Add 1 tsp chili garlic sauce or adjust red pepper flakes to taste.
