Indulge in a golden, crispy-on-the-outside, soft-on-the-inside French toast that makes for a perfect weekend breakfast or brunch treat.

Ingredients

• 4 large eggs
• 1 cup milk (preferably whole)
• 1 tsp vanilla extract
• 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
• A pinch of salt
• 8 slices of day-old bread (brioche or challah recommended)
• Butter or oil for frying

Instructions

  • In a shallow bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt until smooth.
  • Heat a skillet or griddle over medium heat and add butter or oil.
  • Dip each bread slice into the egg mixture, ensuring both sides are well-coated.
  • Place the soaked bread slices on the heated surface; cook until golden brown on one side (about 2–3 minutes).
  • Flip each slice and cook until the second side is equally golden and the interior is set.
  • Serve immediately with maple syrup, fresh fruit, or a dusting of powdered sugar.

Notes

• Day-old bread works best as it soaks up the custard without becoming mushy.
• Adjust cinnamon and vanilla to suit your taste preferences.
• For extra crispiness, lightly toast the bread before dipping.
