A warm and comforting classic, peach cobbler is a timeless Southern-inspired dessert. Juicy peaches are topped with a buttery, biscuit-like crust that turns golden brown as it bakes, creating a sweet treat perfect for family gatherings or a cozy night in.

Ingredients

Scale
  • Filling
    • 67 fresh peaches (about 2 pounds), peeled and sliced (or use 4 cups canned/frozen peaches, drained)
    • ½ cup granulated sugar (adjust to taste if peaches are very sweet)
    • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
    • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional)
    • ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg (optional)
    • Pinch of salt
  • Topping
    • 1 cup all-purpose flour
    • 1 cup granulated sugar (can reduce to ¾ cup if preferred less sweet)
    • 1 tablespoon baking powder
    • ¼ teaspoon salt
    • ¾ cup milk (whole milk recommended, but any milk works)
    • ½ cup unsalted butter, melted

Instructions

  • Preheat the Oven
    • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish (or similar-sized baking dish) with butter or cooking spray.
  • Prepare the Peach Filling
    • In a mixing bowl, combine sliced peaches, ½ cup sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg, and a pinch of salt. Stir gently until the peaches are well coated.
    • If you like a thicker filling, you can sprinkle in 1 tablespoon of cornstarch.
  • Create the Batter
    • In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, 1 cup sugar, baking powder, and ¼ teaspoon salt.
    • Slowly pour in the milk and whisk until just combined (do not overmix).
    • Stir in the melted butter.
  • Assemble the Cobbler
    • Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish, ensuring it evenly coats the bottom.
    • Gently spoon the peach mixture (and its juices) over the batter. The batter will rise around the peaches as it bakes.
  • Bake
    • Place the cobbler on the center rack of the preheated oven. Bake for 35–40 minutes, or until the batter is golden brown and the peaches are bubbly.
    • To check doneness, insert a toothpick into the biscuit-like crust; if it comes out clean or with a few moist crumbs, it’s ready.
  • Serve
    • Allow the cobbler to rest for about 10 minutes to let the juices settle and the flavors meld.
    • Serve warm, ideally topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream.

Notes

  • If peaches are out of season, you can use canned (drained) or frozen (thawed) peaches for convenience.
  • Adjust the sugar based on the sweetness of your peaches and personal preference.
  • For added flavor, sprinkle a little brown sugar on top before baking.
  • This recipe is best enjoyed fresh, but leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat gently in the oven or microwave before serving.
