Step-by-Step Instructions for Black Forest Trifle
  1. Begin by selecting a clear trifle dish or a large glass bowl to showcase your layers beautifully. Ensure it’s clean and dry.
  2. Take half of the crumbled chocolate cake and evenly spread it across the bottom of your trifle dish. Gently press it down.
  3. Spoon half of the cherry pie filling over the chocolate cake layer. Use a spatula to spread it evenly.
  4. Dollop one cup of whipped cream over the cherry layer. Puff it up with a spatula, forming a light layer.
  5. Repeat the process by layering the remaining crumbled chocolate cake on top. Gently press it down.
  6. Spoon the rest of the cherry pie filling on top of the second cake layer, spreading it evenly.
  7. Dollop the remaining whipped cream over the cherry layer, spreading it smoothly across the top.
  8. Sprinkle chocolate shavings over the whipped cream and arrange halved fresh cherries on top.
  9. Cover the trifle dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours to allow the layers to set.
  10. When ready to serve, scoop into the trifle, making sure to get all layers in each portion.
