Method

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13-inch pan using nonstick cooking spray or butter. Line with parchment paper.
  2. Melt the unsalted butter in a saucepan over low to medium heat, then cool for 3–5 minutes.
  3. Whisk together granulated and light brown sugars into the melted butter until smooth, then add vanilla extract.
  4. Incorporate eggs one at a time, whisking well after each addition. Whisk until fluffy.
  5. Sift together flour, cocoa powder, salt, and baking powder in a separate bowl.
  6. Gently fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture in two additions. Mix in chocolate chips and nuts.
  7. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top with a spatula. Tap the pan gently to release air bubbles.
  8. Bake for 22–28 minutes, checking at 22 minutes. A toothpick should have a few moist crumbs when done.
  9. Let brownies cool completely in the pan for at least 1–1.5 hours. Chill in the refrigerator for cleaner cuts.
  10. Lift brownies out using the parchment paper and cut heart shapes with cookie cutters.
  11. Dust with powdered sugar just before serving, using a stencil for an artistic touch if desired.
  12. Microwave chocolate chips with milk or cream, stir until smooth, and drizzle over brownies.
  13. Garnish with fresh berries and serve with whipped cream or ice cream.
