Step-by-Step Instructions for Butter Cookie Box
  1. Cream together the softened unsalted butter, granulated sugar, and powdered sugar until light and fluffy, about 3-5 minutes.
  2. Add the egg yolk, vanilla extract, almond extract, and salt to the mixture. Mix until well combined, about 2 minutes.
  3. Gradually sift in the all-purpose flour and mix on low speed until a soft dough forms, about 2-3 minutes. If using chocolate chips, fold them in gently.
  4. Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
  5. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  6. Roll the chilled dough into balls, about 1 inch in diameter, and place them on the baking sheets spaced 2 inches apart.
  7. Press down each ball slightly and sprinkle with colorful sugar or sprinkles if desired.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.
  9. Let the cookies cool on the baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring them to wire racks.
