Method

Step-by-Step Instructions for Vampire Bread
  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine 1 cup of warm water, ¼ cup of granulated sugar, and 1 packet of active dry yeast. Allow the mixture to sit for 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
  2. Once the yeast mixture is frothy, add 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil, 1 teaspoon of salt, and 2 cups of all-purpose flour. Mix until well combined, forming a shaggy dough.
  3. Gradually add the remaining flour, mixing until a dough forms. Knead for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Divide the dough into two equal portions. Knead in 1 cup of black food coloring into one portion and 1 cup of red food coloring into the other.
  5. Roll both colored portions into long ropes and gently twist them together to create a beautiful swirled effect.
  6. Place the twisted dough into a greased loaf pan, cover with a clean kitchen towel and let it rise for about 2 hours, until it has doubled in size.
  7. While the dough is rising, preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  8. Once the dough has risen, bake it in the preheated oven for about 30 minutes until golden brown.
