  3. Combine Ingredients in a Pot: In a medium-sized pot, combine butter, granulated sugar, water, and salt. Heat while stirring until smooth.
  4. Heat to Hard Crack Stage: Monitor the temperature with a candy thermometer aiming for 300°F.
  5. Remove from Heat and Add Vanilla: Stir in vanilla once the toffee reaches 300°F.
  6. Pour Over Nuts: Pour the hot caramel mixture over the layer of nuts.
  7. Add Chocolate Chips: Sprinkle chocolate chips over the warm caramel.
