Preparation Steps
- In a medium skillet, melt 2 tablespoons of butter over medium heat. Add 2 cups of diced apples, ¼ cup of brown sugar, 1 teaspoon of cinnamon, and 2 tablespoons of water. Stir well and cook for about 4–6 minutes, until the apples are slightly softened and fragrant.
- In a small bowl, mix 1 tablespoon of cornstarch with 1 tablespoon of water until smooth. Pour this mixture into the apple filling, stirring constantly for 4-5 minutes until it thickens and coats the apples beautifully.
- In a shallow bowl, combine ¼ cup of sugar and 1 teaspoon of cinnamon. Mix well to create a cinnamon sugar mixture.
- Trim the crusts off 8 slices of thick bread and then flatten each slice with a rolling pin. Spread a thin layer of cream cheese over one side of each slice.
- On one edge of each prepared bread slice, place a spoonful of the cooled apple filling. Roll the bread tightly, starting from the filled edge and tucking in the sides.
- Heat 3 tablespoons of butter in a non-stick skillet over medium heat. In a separate bowl, whisk together 2 eggs and ½ cup of milk. Dip each roll carefully in the egg mixture, then place it seam-side down in the hot skillet.
- Once cooked, immediately roll each warm Apple Pie French Toast Roll Up in the cinnamon sugar mixture, ensuring an even coating.
