Method
 

Preparation Steps
  1. In a sturdy glass, add about 10 fresh mint leaves and 2 teaspoons of white sugar. Gently press down on the mint leaves to release their essential oils for about 30 seconds.
  2. Squeeze the juice of one freshly cut lime into the glass, stirring gently with a spoon to combine the sugar and lime juice with the muddled mint for about 15 to 20 seconds.
  3. Pour in 1.5 ounces of white rum to the muddled mixture, then gently stir again for about 10 seconds to blend the ingredients.
  4. Fill the glass with ice cubes, leaving a little room at the top. Aim for about ¾ cup of ice.
  5. Carefully pour sparkling soda water over the ice until the glass is full, integrating the soda with the rest of the ingredients with a gentle stir.
  6. Garnish with a sprig of fresh mint and a lime wheel on the rim of the glass, then serve immediately.
