Preparation Steps
- In a sturdy glass, add about 10 fresh mint leaves and 2 teaspoons of white sugar. Gently press down on the mint leaves to release their essential oils for about 30 seconds.
- Squeeze the juice of one freshly cut lime into the glass, stirring gently with a spoon to combine the sugar and lime juice with the muddled mint for about 15 to 20 seconds.
- Pour in 1.5 ounces of white rum to the muddled mixture, then gently stir again for about 10 seconds to blend the ingredients.
- Fill the glass with ice cubes, leaving a little room at the top. Aim for about ¾ cup of ice.
- Carefully pour sparkling soda water over the ice until the glass is full, integrating the soda with the rest of the ingredients with a gentle stir.
- Garnish with a sprig of fresh mint and a lime wheel on the rim of the glass, then serve immediately.
