  • 1 pound ground beef or ground turkey ground turkey is a leaner option
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs preferably panko
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • ¼ cup chopped fresh parsley
  • 1 large egg helps bind the ingredients
  • 2 teaspoons minced garlic
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
For the Sauce
  • ½ cup bourbon the star of the dish
  • 1 cup apple butter
  • ¼ cup barbecue sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Optional Garnish
  • sliced green onions for garnishing

Preparation
  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine ground beef or turkey, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, and parsley. Add egg, garlic, salt, and pepper. Mix until incorporated.
  2. Shape the mixture into meatballs about 1 to 1.5 inches in diameter, aiming for 20 to 24 meatballs.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together bourbon, apple butter, barbecue sauce, Worcestershire sauce, and cinnamon until smooth.
  4. Place meatballs in the slow cooker and pour the bourbon apple butter sauce over them.
  5. Cover and cook on low heat for 4 to 6 hours until cooked and tender.
  6. Transfer meatballs to a serving platter and drizzle additional sauce over them.
  7. Garnish with sliced green onions just before serving.
